FTBs flock to affordable homes show

29 October 2007

More than 2,200 Londoners attended the Housing Options Affordable New Homes Show at the New Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden last week.

The annual show is organised by London HomeBuy Agents Metropolitan Home Ownership and aims to assists first-time buyers find affordable housing in the capital.

Steve Moseley, Head of Marketing and Communications at Tower Homes said that by bringing together 30 housing associations offering low-cost home ownership properties the event would benefit prospective first-time who might otherwise assume that owning a home in London is out of their reach.

"First-time buyers have been able to see for themselves what affordable housing solutions are currently available and find out what we can do to support them in their bid to get on the first rung of the property ladder," he said.

Research released earlier this month by Abbey showed that young prospective homeowners are increasingly buying property outside of major urban centres and commuting to work.

The study noted that the average asking price for home in Greater London has now surpassed the £350,000 mark.
