Brits use loans to pay for plastic

16 October 2007

Around one million Britons plan to use personal loans to achieve the body beautiful through plastic surgery, a new report reveals.

Image-conscious people living in the UK plan to fork out a staggering £1.4 billion to go under the knife, according to the latest research by Abbey Loans.

Breast augmentation is currently the most sought-after procedure among Britons accounting for 27 per cent of all surgery while tummy tucks and nose jobs follow on behind with 25 per cent and 17 per cent respectively.

Over half those looking to transform their bodies admit it is to gain more confidence in themselves, while 32 per cent say it is for medical purposes.

Paul Morrish, head of Abbey Loans, said he had witnessed a noticeable growth in the number of people coming forward to take out loans.

"Whether striving for visible perfection or as part of a medical treatment, plastic surgery is getting more and more popular amongst Britons," he said.

Figures from Abbey show that eastern Europe is now the most popular place to have cosmetic surgery carried out.
