Women 'ambitious in property market'...

18 September 2007

Women are becoming more ambitious when it comes to property investment and are increasingly switching on to the dynamics of the housing market, according to a new study commissioned by Bradford and Bingley.

The research shows that 59 per cent of women in property see housing as a major investment and 47 per cent view it as a replacement for a pension.

In addition a quarter of those women who have already bought property plan to add to their portfolios within the next 12 months.

And it seems most women are taking this on in addition to their day jobs, with 76 per cent carrying on with their careers as well as managing their investment properties.

Some 42 per cent have also taken on much of the renovation and improvement work themselves and 90 per cent have dealt personally with tradespeople.

Female property mogul Fiona Fullerton said: "Many women have a strong business sense and when combined with an innate ability to multitask and a key eye for design, it can often create a winning formula."

Research released by the DIY retailer B&Q last year revealed that women provide the design inspiration for 80 per cent of all home improvement and renovation projects.
