07 September 2007 Nearly one fifth of Britons worry about money on a daily basis as debt levels in the UK spiral ever skywards, a new report has revealed. According to a study by Alliance & Leicester (A&L) 3.4 million Britons say that money is the biggest concern in their life, while nearly a third frets about money issues several times a week.Of these worriers, half of people admit that their financial anxiety increases around Christmas and New Year - with four in ten people worrying about money in the run up to a holiday., One third of people say they are most worried about their financial situation in the run up to pay day. However, 37% of people who do not worry at all about their money admit they avoid checking their bank balance or opening their bank statements to try and avoid confronting possible money issues. Andy Bayes, head of current accounts at Alliance & Leicester, said: "Money is obviously a topic at the forefront of most peoples minds. "Regardless of whether money worries stem from managing day to day finances or finding the money in the run up to special times of the year, it's crucial people check that their bank account is working hard for them."
