Men 'love cars more than partners'...

24 September 2007

One third of British men spend more cash on their car than on their loved one, a new survey reveals.

According to fish4cars, one in three men spends a staggering £20,000 on spoilers, alloys and car accessories during their lifetime, but when it comes to their partners it is a struggle for them to open their wallets, buying their partners a present just once per month.

The research also discovered that four out of ten men admit to having given their car a clean and polish over the past fortnight, while one in ten men confess they have never shown the same level of attention to their partners.

Indeed, cars seem to encourage an obsession among many men, with almost one third of the 1,000 blokes surveyed dreaming of being the proud owner of an Aston Martin and driving along with the wind in their hair.

"It is a sad story to hear that some men enjoy spending time cleaning and tinkering with their cars more than wining and dining their loved ones," said Joe Slavin, chief executive at fish4cars.

For sensible Brits, fuel economy (35%) and safety (30%) are the most important factors when buying a car, the firm found.
