Britons Move 125 miles to Find Perfect Home....

07 September 2007
Britons travel an average 125 miles in a lifetime as a result of moving house, a new report reveals.
According to a study by Zurich, nine per cent of people in the UK have travelled 400 miles or more between homes.
What's more, the home insurance firm found that many respondents had been through an average of three properties in their lifetime in the quest to find that perfect home.
Due to rising interest rates and a difficult property market, many people are now opting for smaller, less expensive homes, with 23 per cent of people looking to downsize, the report found.
"The British obsession with finding the perfect property is still going strong, with homeowners prepared to move hundreds of miles to find the perfect home in the perfect location," Steve Gilbert, home underwriting manager at Zurich Insurance, said.
The south-west of the UK came top of the poll of places to live, with 25 per cent of the vote, with the south-east, Scotland, the north-west and Yorkshire and Humber following on behind.
Londoners were the least likely to search further afield to find a home, moving an average of just 77 miles.
